
Pakistan Super League PSL – Player retentions for HBL PSL 2025 announced
Lahore, 4 January 2025: Franchises of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) have finalised their retained players ahead of the HBL PSL 2025 Players Draft on 11 January. The league next season will take place between 8 April and 19 May 2025.
Pakistan Super League PSL – The draft has 510 players from 19 countries registered.
Each franchise could retain up to eight players from its previous roster. Karachi Kings, Multan Sultans, and Peshawar Zalmi, however, retained seven players each out of the maximum of eight, and they used the full quota of their retention slots.

Retentions: Islamabad United
Islamabad United retained captain Shadab Khan, last season’s Player of the Tournament, and star fast bowler Naseem Shah in the Platinum category— Islamabad United are the defending champions and have claimed the title three times.
The other players retained in the Diamond category are Azam Khan and Imad Wasim, who is the team’s mentor as well. Salman Ali Agha has been named as brand ambassador for Gold category, while Haider Ali retained.
Rumman Raees and Colin Munro, who is the second-highest-ever run-scorer for an overseas batter in the HBL PSL history, have been retained in the Silver category.
Multan Sultans’ Retentions:
2021 PSL champions and last edition’s runners-up Multan Sultans have retained Mohammad Rizwan (capt.) and Usama Mir (leg-spinner) in the Platinum category.
In the Diamond category, David Willey (fourth PSL cap), Iftikhar Ahmed and opening batter Usman Khan have retained. Iftikhar will be appointed the brand ambassador, and Willey has also been appointed as the mentor of the team.
Chris Jordan of England has been retained in the Gold category, while wrist-spinner Faisal Akram will remain in the Silver category.
Peshawar Zalmi’s Retentions:
One-time PSL champions Peshawar Zalmi have retained their captain Babar Azam, the most-run scorer in PSL history, and explosive batter Saim Ayub in the Platinum category.
Wicketkeeper Mohammad Haris retained in the Diamond category, and spin bowlers Arif Yaqoob, Mehran Mumtaz, and Sufyan Moqim retained in the Silver category. For Zalmi, Sufyan Moqim will also be brand ambassador.
In the emerging category, one of the hottest fast bowling exports in Ali Raza, who took his maiden ten-wicket haul in a Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final, has been retained.
Retentions: Quetta Gladiators
Quetta Gladiators retained big-hitting Rilee Rossouw, the highest-scoring overseas batter in PSL history, mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed and pacer Mohammad Amir all in the Diamond category. Amir will also serve as mentor for the team.
Saud Shakeel was retained in the Gold category and appointed as Gladiators brand ambassador Gold category has also retained the No. 1 ranked T20I bowlers Akeal Hosein and Mohammad Wasim Jr.
In the Silver category, Khawaja Mohammad Nafay and medium-pacer Usman Tariq will be retained by the 2019 PSL champions,
Karachi Kings’ Retentions:
Karachi Kings, winners of HBL PSL 2020, has retained pacer Hasan Ali and James Vince in Diamond category. The Gold category features captain Shan Masood and last season’s best fielder, emerging player Muhammad Irfan Khan.
In the Silver category, spinners Arafat Minhas, Zahid Mehmood, and New Zealand’s Tim Seifert are also retained. 20 year old Arafat Minhas, who has sophomore T20I experience with Pakistan (4 T20Is) has also been appointed as the brand ambassador for Karachi Kings.
Lahore Qalandars’ Retentions:
Lahore Qalandars, winners of the PSL twice, retained the third-highest wicket taker of all time [Shaheen Shah Afridi] and the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament’s history [Fakhar Zaman] in the Platinum category. Fast bowler Haris Rauf, who will be the brand ambassador as well, continues to be retained in the Diamond category along with the Zimbabwean Sikandar Raza.In the Gold category, Abdullah Shafique, Jahandad Khan, and Zaman Khan are retained, while experienced all-rounder David Wiese is retained in the Silver category.
Lahore Qalandars have the first pick in the Platinum category with Islamabad United in the second, Quetta Gladiators third.
